PRONUNCIATION OF REGULAR PAST ENDINGS

To form the Simple Past of regular verbs we add -ed to the infinitive. This ending can be pronounced in three different ways:

1) /t/ after a voiceless consonant sound : /p, k, f, ʃ, ʧ, s/  The -e- is not pronounced!! 
stopped /stɒpt/
worked /wɜːkt/
laughed /lɑːft/
washed /wɒʃt/
watched /wɒtʃt/
danced /dɑːnst/

2) /d/ after a voiced sound: /b, g, v, ʒ, ʤ, z, ð, l, m, n/ or a vowel sound
The -e- is not pronounced!! It remains silent! 
 robbed /rɒbd/
hugged /hʌgd/
lived /lɪvd/
massaged /ˈmæsɑːʒd/
managed /ˈmænɪdʒd/
pleased /pliːzd/
breathed /briːðd/
sailed /seɪld/
seemed /siːmd/
rained /reɪnd/
enjoyed /ɪnˈdʒɔɪd/

3) /Id/ after /t/ or /d/
wanted /ˈwɒntɪd/
needed /ˈniːdɪd/
